Terms and Conditions: CODE OF CONDUCT: As a student of the program, I will: 1.Always put safety first. 2.Show respect for myself, my instructors, my classmates, MBSC members, and their guests. 3.Show respect for the school facilities, club facilities and the fleet. 4.Enter the main MBSC building only with an instructor’s permission. 5.Keep the classroom, property, and dinghy area clean and tidy. 6.Help other persons in the school have a positive experience by making every attempt to include all participants in all activities AND treat one another with respect and dignity at all times, and especially when there is disagreement. 7.Know where my own personal property is, including clothing, PFD, and lunch bag, and take all personal items home with me at the end of the day. 8.Report any damage to the fleet or facilities, or lost equipment, promptly to a sailing instructor. 9.Respect and treat others fairly, regardless of their race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or disability. 10.Not use any profane, offensive or vulgar language, nor wear any clothing with profane, offensive or vulgar images or text. 11.Not participate in rowdy, obnoxious or unnecessarily loud behaviour. 12.Always try my best and ask for help when I need it. DISCIPLINARY PROCESS Our goal is to run a safe, fair, and fun sailing program that all children will enjoy. We trust that sailors will behave appropriately but, if needed, verbal warnings of misconduct will be given by instructors. MBSC instructors and coaches have some discretion with respect to discipline or behavioural issues. Incidents of significant behaviour will be logged in the MBSC Sailing School incident book, on a daily basis, and reviewed with the Sailing School Director, Instructors, and Sailing School Manager. Incidents include, but are not limited to: - Misuse of safety whistle - Not wearing PFD properly (on the water, on the sailing school docks) - Violation of the Code of Conduct - Theft and/or vandalism, including damage to club boats or property - Failure to obey instructors - Unsafe behaviour as determined by the instructors Notices will be made to a parent as follows: Incident 1 - Telephone call to discuss the situation with the parent and agree upon course of action. Incident 2 - Meeting between a parent, the Sailing School Manager and possibly Sailing School Director. Incident 3 - Meeting between a parent and the Sailing School Director. Possible expulsion. MBSC reserves the right to issue partial refunds (or not) upon expulsion, at its sole discretion. Notice: MBSC Sailing School instructors are required to have a Standard first aid course. They are not medically trained personnel and therefore they cannot be responsible for the dispensing of any medication or treatments, other than first aid and life saving medication (Epi-pen or Asthma Inhaler). Sailing involves inherent risks, and MBSC instructors expect all students to obey the Code of Conduct and behave in a safe manner. Students must be able to fully participate with their assigned group within the instructor ratio for their level. Waiver: I acknowledge that the sport of sailing involves certain risks and I authorize the child's participation at my own risk. I agree that the MBSC, the MBSC Sailing School, Ontario Sailing, Sail Canada and all their instructors, members, agents, employees, volunteers, officers and directors shall not be liable in any way for any loss or injury resulting from or in connection with participation in the sailing program. I accept that the program may also involve land or water activities outside the MBSC property and I authorize the child's participation on or off-site at my own risk. As a parent or legal guardian, I have read and understand fully the information on this form and I agree to be bound by the NOTICE and WAIVER statements. I also confirm that the child does not have any special education needs or medical conditions other than the ones I have listed on the application form, if any; and that a false declaration may lead to the immediate dismissal of the child without refund. I understand that no reimbursement for instruction or material fees will be made, even in the case of loss or injury, adverse weather conditions, or equipment breakdown that may prevent sailing activities. Refund Policy Refunds will be provided upon request as follows: Up to 2 weeks prior to the first day of the sailing school session – Session Fee less 15% No refunds will be provided less than 2 weeks prior to first day of the session in which the participant is registered. Ontario Sailing Concussion Code of Conduct – Athlete and Participant In recognition of the potential seriousness of a concussion, I commit to following the concussion protocols and expectations highlighted below I will help prevent concussions by: - Respecting the rules of my sport - Being committed to fair play and respect for all, including other athletes, coaches, and officials. I will care for my health and safety by taking concussions seriously, and I understand that: - A concussion is a brain injury that can have both short and long-term effects. - A blow to my head, face, neck, or body that causes the brain to move around inside the skull may cause a concussion. - I don’t need to lose consciousness to have had a concussion. - I have a commitment to concussion recognition and reporting, including if I think I might have a concussion I should stop participating in further training, practice or competition immediately and tell a coach; as well as reporting to my coach if I think another participant has a concussion. - Continuing to participate in further training, practice or competition with a possible concussion increases my risk of more severe, longer lasting symptoms, and increases my risk of other injuries. I will not hide concussion symptoms. I will speak up for myself and others. - I will not hide my symptoms. I will tell a coach, official, parent or another adult I trust if I experience any symptoms of concussion. - If someone else tells me about concussion symptoms, or I see signs they might have a concussion, I will tell a coach, official, parent or another adult I trust so they can help. - I understand that if I have a suspected concussion, I will be removed from sport and that I will not be able to return to training, practice or competition until I undergo a medical assessment by a medical doctor or nurse practitioner and have been medically cleared to return to training, practice or competition. - I have a commitment to sharing any pertinent information regarding incidents of removal from sport with my school and any other sport organization where I am registered. I will take the time I need to recover, because it is important for my health. - I understand my commitment to following the return-to-sport process. - I will respect my coaches, parents, health-care professionals, and medical doctors/nurse practitioners, regarding my health and safety. By signing here, I acknowledge that I have fully reviewed the Ontario concussion resource documents and commit to this Concussion Code of Conduct.
